stuck...again

Hi Everybody!
Been using this nice component for a while and I just upgraded from 1.0.3... :
I'd like to do some changes in table view: the form is a competition registration where users can choose their starting order among the available ones... (Sorry I'm not very clear... :-\)
I'd like to display a message like: "sorry, too late" if someone wants the tenth position and it's already booked!
Does anyone got a clue how to do this?

We'll need to know a little more about you table structure. Can you describe your tables and registration form a little?

I assume the best solution would be to build a dropdown of available starting positions (so only un-taken ones show on the dropdown), plus a "sorry" error message if someone else grabs that slot between the time they loaded the page and submitted the form.
