Recaptcha Error, Joomla 3.8.8, Fabrik 3.8.1

Joomla! site, modified Protostar template. After recent Joomla! update, Recaptcha on Fabrik form now displays, instead of the challenge:

ERROR for site owner:
Invalid domain for site key

Of course, I have not changed the keys, but did recheck with Google to make sure they are still valid.

All of the pieces of Fabrik are updated to 3.8.1

Uncertain as to how to proceed...

Pretty sure that's not a Fabrik issue. I can't replicate it, and nobody else has mentioned it in the forums - if it was a systemic issue, we'd being seeing a lot of posts about it.

What version did you update from (or rather, was your version more than about 6 months old)? We moved from Google's captcha API v1 to v2 earlier this year. Make sure you API key is for v2, not v1. Go to ...

https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin#list

... and make sure "Site Type" is "v2".

If it is v2, then maybe try editing that key, then under the "Advanced" settings, turn off domain name validation. If that fixes it, then there's some issue with the reverse DNS lookup for your site, and Google can't get a matching domain name from the IP.

Hmm. I had already checked for the version. I toggled off the domain name validation - and sure enough, the error message went away - so you've helped me trace the problem's origin. Thank you!
I wonder if the SSL certificate for the site could have anything to do with the DNS lookup? But as I see it, the Google controls only allow you to specify the actual domain name itself - without the http: or https: prefix.
I will also check with the webhost to see if they might have any insight into the reverse DNS lookup failure...

It sounds like just a hiccup at Google's end. if you google around for that error message, you'll find a lot of cases where the error came and went with no apparent reason, with the fix either being turning verification off and on, or deleting the key and creating a new one.
