Wiki Page List block order wacky

Some time back the Wiki Page List used to put the alphabetic blocks down the page and then start a new column:

A D G
B E H
C F I

Now it does:
A B C
D E F
G H I

The problem is that the blocks are uneven because e.g. elements and lists have a lot of entries, so it actually looks like this:

C D E
F D E
F G E
F H E
F I E
F J E
L J E
L J M
L O M
L O P
L S P
L S T

YUK!!!!!

Although good luck getting him to respond. As you can see from an exchange we had about an upgrade breaking this site, he's not that interested in taking on suggestions.

Just took a look at the html. Its a series of float left divs which creates:

C D E
F G H

but this leaves big gaps under C and D because E is so much longer, and it then uses some JS to set absolute positions on the blocks to close the gaps.

To be honest I am not sure how you do newspaper style column flowing in HTML / CSS. So no idea how they previously did it.

But probably not easily fixable.
