questions re new list

dream

Member
problems are piling up so i decided to create a brand new list based on a db table.
can someone explain why,
a) one of the fields was duplicated (two elements for one field);
b) all of the elements are child elements.

What method did you use to create the table?

Did you go to Lists, New, and pick the table name from the dropdown under the Data tab?

Do you have any existing Lists which use the same underlying table?

which element type was duplicated twice?

b) they're child elements as this is how fabrik works. As long as they are child elements you can edit the original element and its settings are used by the child element. This avoids the need to go though multiple child elements and edit each one.

i don't think i can explain this. it **might** have to do with previously copying an element, i'm not sure.
also not sure now which element type it was. sry.

related questions: if i create a new list based on a db table, and i already have a list based on that table, are the new (groups and) elements ALWAYS based on the original?

similarly, is there any way of creating a new group and elements that are not children? (without using the unlinking process.) just trying to more fully understand what happens, what's possible, what's not.
tnx
