How to make a Filter on an element not in the List but joined to one of its elements?

Imagine 3 tables M , N and O.
M and N are connected to each other as a many-to-many relationship (using a multi dropdownbox).
O is connected to N as a simple 1-to-many relationship.

When defining a record for table M, user can choose a value of N via multi dropdownbox. For O there is no value to choose from , its presence has no direct relevance with the record in M.
In the List for table M it is easy to make a Filter selecting by a value of M ... but how to create a Filter selecting by a value of table O (being connected to table N but not to the List M).

We have 2 such examples:
In a Project (table M) are several Clients (N) involved. We aggregiate Clients by ClientType (table O).
A Project covers several Topics (table N). Topics are grouped by Themes (table O).
When showing a List of all Projects, then we want to have a Filter to select those Projects whose associated Clients are of a Client-Type X (X the value choosen in the Filter).
Idem dito for Filter Projects by the Topics belonging to a Theme choosen by the Filter?
Is there a way to?

Regards,
manu
