Before giving an answer think about this:
What happens if the component you want to upgrade has been modified in github, to make use of other core/lib changes/updates.

In this case you would have a so called "Dependancy".

If you update component you would have also to update relevant files - maybe from core - depending on your current installed version.
That's the reason for "Stable Releases" - they define the baseline.

So IF you KNOW that you have no other dependancies, then yes you can just update your component.

EITHER you download the entire zip-ball and extract just your component, OR you use a git client of your choice and just checkout the component only.

You can also just download file-by-file of your component using the github webfrontend.

If you are not used to git, i suggest to go with the zip-ball method, OR to learn how to use git. There is a lot of information/howtos in the net - just use google.

As you normally don't know about dependancies (apart from e.g. language files) you have to upload the complete GitHub.

But you don't need to install all plugins you can discover, install and enable only those you want to use.

After a GitHub update fabrik is running the new code. But to let the Joomla Extension Manager know about the new files/versions make sure to do
http://fabrikar.com/forums/index.php?wiki/update-from-github/#Post_Github_Update_Steps

To refresh Joomla's database you need to go into the Extension Manager and click Manage. In the Filter box type Fabrik, as highlighted in green in the image below, and then click search. Once this is complete make sure you at the bottom of your screen.

DONE !! (many times. see my other threads)

You now need to select everything.

Again, DONE (many times and many new installs of J & F) at least 4, and I have not tried a new one in 2 weeks, awaiting answers as to simply WHY? but this is going on a month now.

Once everything is selected, click Refresh Cache.

Again x 3 times = DONE..

Hopefully you will now see your items at the latest release.

I am just glad it does not say "Hold your breath", as I would have been dead.

${createdate} in all !!

Now go into Update, click , select everything listed and then

There are no updates available at the moment. Please check again later.

${createdate}: yes, this is ok; it's showing version 3.0.7 and ${createdate}

no updates: this is correct, too (after a GitHub update there is no fabrik code updatable via Joomla update, GitHub - which has nothing to do with the Joomla update - has the newer code)

The "mysterious " ${createdate} as it had been asked a few times on the forum, comes from the predefined xml files from each module/plugin/component of fabrik in github.

My guess is ( but i haven't looked into it in detail), that it is a placeholder that will be used to patch in the final version number by the build process when an offical stable is created.

/* bump */

Wondering if this issue has been fixed yet? It's the only one I recall in quite a few years of messing with Joomla that has had this issue.

Correct we were using it as a placeholder- its been removed as the build script has got a little more intelligent and has a better regular expression for updating the create date, so we leave the previous date in place how.
All files should now simply have the last build date listed as their create date.

We are in need of some funding.
More details.

Thank you.
