autocomplete element data stored even when no record selected

• go to: http://www.skyrun.com/skyforce/test/leads
• then select +add to add a new lead.
• then type something like 'fubar foobah' in the guest autocomplete field which finds no records
• then press 'save'.

the guest id field should be empty now (imho), which will fire the isempty validation on that field since no record has been selected.
however what happens instead is that the search value typed into the field is stored into the element in the db (in this case the text string 'fubar foobah') which doesn't databasejoin to anything AND MORE importantly causes the notempty validation to fail.
