Date Format

I am trying to do either one of these:
(1) When entering in a date, I want to be able to enter it in in this format mm/dd/yyyy. Currently I have the clander returning the values in this format, but if it is typed into the field, it does not register the proper date.
or
(2) not allow a date to be typed in, but only get the date from the calender.

Is either of these possible?

Hi Mark,

Just to make sure I understand you correctly - do you want to allow the user to set a date but only with the calendar or if allowed to enter in the date manually that there is a validation rule that ensures that they enter the date in the correct format (pending that it registers the correct date) or do you want to set an automatic time stamp?

The first option would be best.

The other option is I want to be able to enter the date in the format 01-25-1959 instead of 1959-01-25 cause when the latter is done, the date does not take right.

Thanks

hi

Disabling the field is not an option as doing so stops the posting of the data contained within the field.
How have you got the calendar to return date's in the format mm/dd/yyyy (default is yyyy-mm-dd)? Is its with the site's locale setting?

We are in need of some funding.
More details.

Thank you.
