sef won't work on new server

I copied 2 joomla projects with fabrik from a webhosting to a vserver.
All is working fine, but sef slug in fabrik.
On all lists it is linking to details without slug: .../details/10/1 insted of .../details/10/1-slug
In Joomla i have this SEO settings:
sef: on
use mod_rewrite: yes
add suffix to url: yes

I have setup a new joomla / fabrik installation for testing. the same problem here: sef do not work on fabrik.

Where should i search this problem?

If everything was working on the first server and not on the second, obviously that means that the issue comes from different settings on both servers.
Is mod_rewrite enabled on the new server?
If you still have access to the first server, you should compare the two settings (via the PHP info for instance) to find what could cause this issue.
