Linking to a video

Hi,

This may be a very naive question but them I'm new to this. I'm using Joomla 3.02 with Fabrik 3.1a and the SVN update.

I want to be able to play a video when I click on a link or icon on the site.

When I use the "link" plug-in in an element, I enter
http://bllh3.cloudaccess.net/httpdocs/images/Program_Video_Tutorial/
for the Default URL and select Link Target of Media Box with Smart Link turned on.

After I enter the video name on the front end and click on the link in the form I get a 404 error. When did this in Joomla 2.5, I got what could have been a video player but no video.

I tried the "video" plug-in, with the UPLOAS_DIR set to
http://bllh3.cloudaccess.net/httpdocs/images/Program_Video_Tutorial/
The video uploads but then I get a blank screen with this URL:
http://bllh3.cloudaccess.net/index.php/fabrik/exercise/form/1/2/html.html

Hope you can help. I've spent way too much time on what should be a simple task.

Where is located your video? The path to the file does not seem correct: it's mssing the video file itself: http://bllh3.cloudaccess.net/httpdocs/images/Program_Video_Tutorial/

Try setting
"Use mediabox instead of slimbox" in fabrik options/JavaScript

On the pics, we can't see the whole path so make sure your link is pointing to an actual video file. of so, it should work (or at least not give a 404 error)

Let me see if I understand the functionality of this.
In the element, I define the Default URL like so:
http://bllh3.cloudaccess.net//httpdocs/images/Exercise Video Tutorial/
This is the directory where my videos are stored. On the front end I enter the video file name, the system concatenates the two, invokes the player and we have a video playing.

If I understand you correctly, I should have the whole thing in the Default URL:
http://bllh3.cloudaccess.net//httpdocs/images/Exercise Video Tutorial/side_plank.mp4
and the entry at the front end is just a label for the link.

When I try this I get a message that I've reached the correct page but the site is not ready. If this is correct, I should contact my hosting service.

Well, the link element is not going to work. I tested your link - the correct one is bllh3.cloudaccess.net/images/Exercise Video Tutorial/side_plank.mp4 - but the video does not play, you can just download it.
There is a video element, but I don't think it is working correctly.
Another solution is to use a Joomla video plugin like AllVideo and use a display element to render the video. I think there was a discussion about this a few month ago.

Thank you. I will try to find that discussion.
Curious that everybody and their uncle want to link to someone else's video but trying to play your own is a royal pain. I can play it with Allvideos or videobox through a Joomla article but I want to invoke it through an icon or link associated with a Fabrik element.

Inserting

in the URL part of my link element (the label part is just any text shown to the user) is playing your video without problem on my site (fabrik option set to "Use media box.."=yes, element options target= "Media box" + use Smart link = yes)

So maybe it's some setting in Joomla configuration or browser plugins.

BTW: better user foldernames without spaces and/or special/capital characters to avoid compatibility problems.
