dropdown list must be selected

I have a dropdown list.
The first item ist called like this "-please select-" and the value ist " ".
In the validation I have the "notempty".
But if I send my form without selecting an item it is sent without an error.
Where do I have to make some changes?

When you say ...

and the value ist " ".

... do you mean you pit the double quotes in there? WHich you shouldn't do.

Works for me, if I just leave the value field blank.

If it still doesn't work for you, try using 0 as the value, and an "isnot" validation.
